YAY! It’s Wednesday and it is almost over. *sigh* Come to think about it, I don’t think I know one single person who looks forward to Wednesday. Not once have I ever heard anyone say “Oh hooray, Wednesday is finally here!” Monday gets attention (mostly negative but it gets acknowledged), Thursdays popularity comes and goes, Friday people look forward to and both Saturday & Sunday get a lot of glory. Poor lonely weekday Wednesday left out like the emo child from the Addams Family.
I think it is about time to give Wednesday some love. At least here on our blog it will get some!
One of our initiatives here is to help facilitate communal learning and provide high value to a group of awesome professionals. Needless to say, our members and followers are so busy being awesome they do not have a lot of extra time to devote to events, and quite frankly, the type of added value we want to provide for this initiative isn’t suited for a weekly/monthly event. But don’t fret, TIMA still has a host of opportunities available for that face-to-face time. With that being said, we have been working diligently on a strategy to deliver the people we promised this to at our kickoff event back in January.
Welcome to our Web Tips and Tricks series!

Remember back in the late 2000’s when StumbleUpon was really big? If you don’t, I will explain: StumbleUpon is a website aggregator that finds and recommends web content to its users. Their features include discovering and rating web pages, photos and videos that use peer-sourced and social-networking principles to deliver websites, photos, articles and videos specified to your unique interests. For those of you who do remember, the site went off the radar a couple years after eBay bought it.
Fast forward 5 years and you can see that StumbleUpon has gone through some major improvements. The company was bought back by the founders and I think that in itself shows the significance and worth of the site alone.
In my content curation efforts I find this site an essential part of my social strategy. All you have to do is record what you want to see and then StumbleUpon introduces you to amazing web pages, videos, photos and more. Most of the content I come across is stuff that I wouldn’t have found on my own – this still impresses me every time I “stumble.”
As a marketer I honestly feel this is one of those tools that helps you go from sharing good content to wow-inspired content, or as I like to call it, “smart content.” Content that learns from your behavior as you record whether you Like or Dislike the recommendations. The “smart content” doesn’t stop there, StumbleUpon also shows you web pages based on the feedback as well as what similar Stumblers and the people you follow have liked or disliked.
Stumbleupon totes that members have given them some pretty great compliments in the past, including describing them as “the entire Internet, all in one place,” “an epic journey” and “a map to an adventure you wouldn’t otherwise have found out about.”
